About KYLIEBYTES

My name is Kylie Robison, often confused for Robinson. I’m a technology reporter for Fortune Magazine, where I cover a little bit of everything: Twitter and Meta scoops, the occasional Alf newsletter, plus some Salesforce and Slack exclusives. Before Fortune, I worked at Business Insider where I covered software developer culture for the enterprise tech team. I made some big break throughs there, like a slew of scoops on Peloton that were cited throughout an investment firms pitch to remove the CEO from his position. I was inside the implosion of fintech startup Fast for more almost a year, and another fintech startup, Bolt. Some scoops on Amazon, Google, Eaze, and Block too.

The inception of KYLIEBYTES, a play on my name with a collection of about 1000 bytes called a kilobyte, came from my college days. As a third-year business management information systems major, I decided I wanted to write about technology for my school's student publication. I had a regular column called KYLIEBYTES, which took off and landed me my first gig in journalism at Business Insider. I started this Substack just before graduation, but the rigors of full-time intern work and finishing up my degree rendered this newsletter obsolete—until now!

What I love about newsletter writing is that it feels incredibly interactive and creatively freeing. I get to write my thoughts, and I sometimes receive emails from people adding their two cents. The best part of my day job is getting to interact with new and interesting people, hearing what they're building, and watching them expound passionately on exciting technical topics. It's a good time, and I think newsletters bring me closer to those people more often.

This newsletter is a work-in-progress. The topics I decide to write about will almost always be about technology and how it's impacting our world—maybe personal anecdotes or even sometimes Alf. The goal of this, as I said, is to connect with people and write more freely. We'll see where this takes us—and thank you for coming along for the ride!
